Tell internal and external mail apart

XgenPlus labels each received mail Internal or External at the top right of the header. Mail from outside your organisation also gets a coloured border and a CAUTION banner saying the mail came from outside your organisation. Treat External mail that claims to come from a colleague with suspicion. You can close the banner once you have read it.

How to tell internal and external mail apart

  1. Open a received mail.
  2. Look at the Internal or External label at the top right of the header. Hover over it for an explanation.
  3. For External mail, read the caution banner, then close it if you wish.

When to use it

Rohit in accounts at acme.in gets an "urgent: change the vendor's bank account" mail that appears to come from the CEO. The External label and caution banner show it came from outside, so he does not act on it and calls the CEO's office instead.

Good to know

  • The label is not shown in Sent or Snoozed.
  • The banner reads in full: "CAUTION: This email came from outside your organization. Be careful when clicking links or sharing sensitive information."

Common questions

Why is mail from our partner company marked External?

XgenPlus counts your own domain as internal, plus any domains your administrator adds to the internal list. Ask your administrator to add the partner's domain if it should count as internal.
