Open, save or share a mail attachment

Open the mail and find the attachment card. Tap View to open the file in a suitable app, Download to save it in a folder you choose, or Share to send it through the Android share sheet. Tapping an attached mail file opens it in the built-in viewer.

How to open, save or share a mail attachment

Where: Open message › attachment card

  1. Open the mail.
  2. Tap View to open the file, Download to save it, or Share to send it on.
  3. For Download, choose the folder where it should be saved.

When to use it

Suresh receives a forwarded mail as a file. He taps it and reads the original inside the app.

Good to know

  • Attachments larger than 128 MB cannot be viewed or downloaded in the app.
  • On older Android the file picker may ask for storage permission first.
  • Opening a file needs another app that can handle its type.
