Sign and encrypt a mail on Android

In Compose in the XgenPlus app, open the menu and tap Digitally Sign, Encrypt or both. The status strip shows whether the recipients' certificates are ready. Tap it for per-recipient status. Send as usual. Encryption needs a valid certificate for every recipient in To, Cc and Bcc.

How to sign and encrypt a mail on android

  1. Set up your S/MIME certificate first.
  2. Write your mail in Compose.
  3. Open the menu and tap Digitally Sign, Encrypt, or both.
  4. [object Object]

Good to know

  • Encryption stops if any recipient's certificate is missing, expired, not yet valid or does not match. Nothing is sent unencrypted by mistake.
  • Your own certificate is added so the copy in Sent stays readable.
  • Drafts are not signed or encrypted.
  • Very large mail may be refused as too large to process securely.
  • If you also have OpenPGP set up on the account, OpenPGP is used and S/MIME is paused.
  • Compose toggles are for XgenPlus accounts.

Common questions

Why is my encrypted mail blocked?

A recipient has no usable certificate. The app says encryption is missing certificates for some recipients. Remove them, send them an unencrypted mail, or import their certificate.

How do I turn it off for one mail?

Open the menu and tap Remove Digital Signature or Remove Encryption.
