# Share a document to edit together

To share a document for collaboration, open **Storage**, right-click a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file and choose **Share for collaboration**, then **Collaboration link (view)** or **Collaboration link (edit)**. A mail opens with the link. Add recipients and send. The link works for 7 days, and recipients do not need an XgenPlus account.

## How to share a document to edit together

1. Open **Storage** and right-click a .docx, .xlsx or .pptx file.
2. Choose **Share for collaboration**.
3. Choose **Collaboration link (view)** or **Collaboration link (edit)**.
4. Add recipients in the mail that opens and click **Send**.

## When to use it

> Rohit is preparing an RFP response at acme.in. He shares "RFP Response.docx" with edit rights with three experts, and they write their sections in the same file before the deadline.

## Options

| Link | What recipients can do |
|---|---|
| **Collaboration link (view)** | Open and read the document. |
| **Collaboration link (edit)** | Open the document and change it. |

## Good to know

- Only the owner of the file can create a collaboration link.
- The option appears only when your administrator has turned on Office editing for you.
- If you share from inside a mail you are writing, the link is put into your mail where the cursor is.
- If a mail cannot be opened, the link is copied so you can paste it yourself.

## Common questions

**How long does the link work?**

7 days from when you create it. After that, share the file again to send a fresh link.

**Can people outside my organisation use the link?**

Yes. They open the document in their browser without signing in to XgenPlus.
