# Group domains together

To group domains, open the admin console and go to **Manage Server › Manage Groups**. Type a group name and click **Add**. Then search for domains on the right, tick the ones you want, choose **Assign Selected To**, pick the group and click **Go**. Server-level groups hold whole domains.

## How to group domains together

1. Open **Manage Server › Manage Groups**.
2. Under **Server Groups**, type a group name and click **Add**.
3. On the right, type part of a domain name and click **Search**.
4. Tick the domains, choose **Assign Selected To**, pick the group in **Group** and click **Go**.
5. Click a group name in **List Of Groups** to see its domains. Use **Move To**, **Copy To** or **Remove From** to change them.

## What the screen shows

The page has two boxes side by side.

| Box | What it contains |
|---|---|
| **Server Groups** (left) | A **Group Name** field with **Add**, and the **List Of Groups** table with the columns **#**, **Group Name** and **Actions**. Each group is shown as its name with the number of domains in brackets. |
| **List of Domains of Group** (right) | A search field with **Search**, and a table of domains with a tick box, **Domain Name**, **No. Of Users**, **Expiry Date** and **Space Used (MB)**. |

## Group actions

| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Add** | Creates a group with the name you typed. A message confirms **Group Is Successfully Created**. |
| **Edit** (pencil icon) | Puts the name back in the box. Change it and click **Update**. |
| **Delete** (cross icon) | Asks "Are you sure you want to delete?" and removes the group. A group that a mail rule uses cannot be deleted. |
| **Email** (mail icon) | Opens a mail window addressed to the group. |
| Group name | Click it to list the domains in that group. |

Group names can use letters, digits, hyphen and underscore, and need at least one letter. Spaces and other punctuation are refused. A name that already exists is refused.

## Moving domains in and out

First search to list domains, or click a group to list only its domains. Tick the domains (the box in the header ticks all), then pick an action and a group and click **Go**.

| Action | When you see it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| **Assign Selected To** | After a search | Adds the ticked domains to the chosen group. |
| **Assign All To** | After a search | Adds every domain found by the search to the chosen group. |
| **Move To** | When a group is open | Moves the ticked domains to another group. |
| **Copy To** | When a group is open | Adds the ticked domains to another group and keeps them here. |
| **Remove From** | Always | Takes the ticked domains out of the group. |

When a group is open, a **Search In Group** tick box lets you search only inside that group.

## Example

> Rohit hosts dept1.acme.in and dept2.acme.in. He creates the group **Acme-Group**, searches for "acme", ticks both domains, chooses **Assign Selected To**, picks **Acme-Group** and clicks **Go**. The group list now shows **ACME-GROUP (2)**.

## Good to know

- If you try to add domains that are already in the group, XgenPlus says **Selected Domains Already In Group**.
- Choosing an action without picking a group shows **please select a group**, and clicking **Go** without ticking any domain shows **please select atleast one Domain**. **Search** with an empty box asks you to enter text.
- Groups made here are for the whole server. A domain administrator makes groups of users for one domain from **Manage Domain(s)**.

## Common questions

**Can I put individual users in a server-level group?**

No. Groups made here contain whole domains. Groups of users are made for one domain at a time from the domain's own **Manage Groups**.

**Why can't I delete a group?**

A group that a user's mail rule still uses cannot be deleted. Ask the user to change the rule first.
