# Set up app push notifications

To set up push notifications, open the admin console and go to **Manage Server › Server Settings** and click the **Push Notification** tab. Enter the **Apps** name, then a Google server **Key**, or upload a **Certificate** with its **Password**, and click **Save**. Saved apps appear in the table below, where you can edit or delete them.

## How to set up app push notifications

1. Open **Manage Server › Server Settings** and click the **Push Notification** tab.
2. Type the app's name in **Apps**.
3. Paste the Google server **Key**, or choose the **Certificate** file and type its **Password**.
4. Click **Save**. The app appears in the table below the form.
5. To change an entry, click its edit icon in **Actions**, change the fields and click **Update**.

## Fields

| Field | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| **Apps** | The name of the app, for example the name of your mail app. Required. | empty |
| **Key** (**Google Server Key**) | The Google server key for the app. | empty |
| **Certificate** | A certificate file to upload for the app. XgenPlus saves it with the app name in front of the file name. Executable, archive, image and spreadsheet files are refused. | none |
| **Password** | The password of the certificate. 6 to 20 characters. Required when you choose a certificate. | empty |
| **Save** | Adds the app. | |
| **Update** | Shown while you edit an entry. Saves the changes. | |
| **Reset** | Shown while you edit an entry. Clears the form and returns to adding. | |

You must give a **Key**, a **Certificate**, or both.

## The table

| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| **Apps Name** | The app. |
| **Google Server Key** | The saved key. |
| **Certificate File Name** | The saved certificate file, if any. |
| **Actions** | Icons to edit or delete the entry. Delete asks you to confirm. |

## Example

> Meera, the mobile lead at acme.in, sends Rohit the Google server key for the company mail app. Rohit opens **Push Notification**, types the app name in **Apps**, pastes the key in **Key** and clicks **Save**. The app now shows in the table.

## Good to know

- If a certificate with the same app name and file name is already saved, **Save** refuses it. When you **Update**, XgenPlus asks whether to replace the existing file.
- The password box is empty when you edit an entry. Type it again if you upload the certificate again.
- This tab is on the same page as **Server Setting**, so you reach both from **Manage Server › Server Settings**.

## Common questions

**Do I need both a key and a certificate?**

No. Give either the Google server **Key** or a **Certificate** file with its **Password**. You can give both for the same app.

**What are the password rules?**

The certificate password must be 6 to 20 characters. XgenPlus asks for the password when you choose a certificate, and asks for a certificate when you type a password.
