# Post a server-wide announcement

To post an announcement, open **Manage Server › Shout Box**, choose a **Type**, write the **Message**, pick **Display in** and **Shout to**, and click **Announce**. Users see the message while they are in their inbox. To take it down, switch **Disabled** to Yes and click **Announce** again.

## How to post a server-wide announcement

1. Open **Manage Server › Shout Box**.
2. Choose the **Type**: **Alert**, **Notice**, **News** or **Notification**.
3. Type the text in **Message**.
4. Choose **Display in** (**Black** or **Red**) and **Shout to** (**All User** or **Domain Administrator**).
5. Click **Announce**.

## Options

| Option | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| **Type** | **Alert**, **Notice** or **News** show a message to users in their inbox. **Notification** sends a push notification to the mobile app users of one domain. | **Alert** |
| **Message** | The text to show. Most punctuation and special characters (for example ! ? : ; , / ( ) @ #) are removed as you type, and extra spaces are collapsed. | Empty |
| **Display in** | The colour of the message: **Black** or **Red**. Not shown for **Notification**. | **Black** |
| **Disabled** | Yes hides the message without deleting its text. Shown for **Alert**, **Notice** and **News** once a message exists. | No |
| **Shout to** | **All User** or **Domain Administrator**. | **All User** |
| **Domain Name** | For **Notification** only. Type the domain and click the search button next to it. **Announce** stays off until the domain is confirmed. | Empty |
| **Send Notification on App** | For **Notice** only. Also sends the notice as a push notification to the mobile app. | No |
| **Announce** | Saves the message and shows it. | |

The form always opens with the message that is currently live, so you can edit it or switch it off.

## Example

> Before Saturday maintenance, Rohit, the server administrator at acme.in, posts a red **Alert** to **All User**: "Mail will be slow from 22:00 to 23:00 on Saturday". On Sunday morning he opens **Shout Box**, sets **Disabled** to Yes and clicks **Announce**, and the message goes away.

## Take the message down

1. Open **Manage Server › Shout Box**. The live message loads into the form.
2. Set **Disabled** to Yes.
3. Click **Announce**.

## Good to know

- There is one live message at a time. A new **Announce** replaces the old text.
- The page tells you **Message Successfully Announced.** when the message is saved.
- The message is shown to users while they are looking at their inbox.
