# Reset a forgotten password

To reset a forgotten password, click **Forgot your password?** on the login page and enter your email address. Choose to get a reset link at your alternate email, or answer your hint question. Open the link, enter the code and the captcha, then set a new password. Your administrator must have turned on Forgot Password for your domain.

## How to reset a forgotten password

1. On the login page, enter your address, click **Next**, then click **Forgot your password?**
2. Enter your email address. XgenPlus shows the recovery options saved on your account.
3. Choose your alternate email, or answer your hint question if you have no recovery contacts.
4. Open the reset mail, enter the code and the captcha, and type your new password twice.
5. Sign in with the new password.

## When to use it

> Anita at example.in forgets her password over a long weekend. She resets it with the link sent to her personal alternate email and is back in her mailbox without calling IT.

## Good to know

- The new password must follow your organisation's password rules, shown on the screen.
- The masked recovery contacts on screen show which of your details XgenPlus will use.
- Keep your alternate email and hint question up to date in Settings so a reset always works.

## Common questions

**I don't see Forgot your password?. Why?**

Your administrator has turned off self-service reset for your domain. Contact your IT helpdesk to reset the password.

**What if I never added an alternate email?**

XgenPlus asks your hint question instead. If you set neither, ask your administrator to reset the password, and add recovery details afterwards.
