# Change your password

To change your password, open **Settings › Change Password** and choose **Mail** or **Secure Folder**. Type the new password twice. Under **Authentication Method**, enter your current password, or choose **TOTP / Web Login** and enter the 6-digit code from the XgenPlus app. Click **Update**. You cannot reuse your last 3 passwords.

## How to change your password

1. Click your profile picture, choose **Settings** and open **Change Password**.
2. Choose **Mail** for your sign-in password, or **Secure Folder** for the folder password.
3. Enter the new password and confirm it.
4. Under **Authentication Method**, choose **Current Password** or **TOTP / Web Login** and enter it.
5. Click **Update**.

## When to use it

> After a phishing scare, Ritu changes her mail password. She has forgotten the old one, so she confirms the change with the code from the XgenPlus app on her phone.

## Good to know

- A password can be up to 20 characters long.
- The new password must follow your organisation's rules, usually a capital letter, a digit and a special character.
- After changing your mail password, update it in any mail app that uses it, or better, give those apps an app password.
- The **Secure Folder** password is separate from your sign-in password.

## Common questions

**I forgot my current password but I'm signed in. Can I still change it?**

Yes, if you have the XgenPlus mobile app. Choose **TOTP / Web Login** and enter the code from the app's Web Login screen instead.

**Why is Change Password missing from my Settings?**

Your administrator has turned off password changes for your domain or account. Ask them to change it for you.
