# Search mail in the Android app

Tap the search icon, type a word and press Search on the keyboard. The app looks in sender, To, Cc, Bcc, subject and message text of mail already on your phone. From inside one folder of an IMAP account, it then also searches the server and downloads matches.

## How to search mail in the Android app

1. Tap the search icon and type a word.
2. Press **Search** on the keyboard.
3. To search all accounts, tap the overflow menu and choose **Search everywhere**.
4. To search the server again, pull down or choose **Search messages on server**.

## When to use it

> Suresh types the invoice number and finds a mail from last year that was not on his phone.

## Options

| Scope | What is searched |
|---|---|
| From a folder | That folder in that account |
| From Unified Inbox | All accounts |
| **Search everywhere** | Every account |
| Server search | One folder of one IMAP account. Not Unified Inbox, Search everywhere or POP3. |

## Good to know

- Message text is searched only for mails whose full body is on the phone.
- Attachment contents and date filters are not available in the app.
- Results are not grouped into conversations.
- Status lines read "Searching the server", "Downloading N messages" and "All matching emails loaded".
- Server search needs internet. Without it you see "A network connection is required for server search."
- Search words are required. An empty box asks "Enter a keyword to search emails."
