# Get new-mail notifications

New unread mail raises a notification with the sender and subject. Tap it to open the message, or use Reply, Mark Read or Delete from the alert. You get no alert for Trash, Drafts, Spam or Sent, for mail you sent yourself if that is off, or during quiet time if you disabled alerts then.

## How to get new-mail notifications

1. Allow notifications when the app asks.
2. When mail arrives, tap the notification to open it.
3. Or tap **Reply**, **Mark Read** or **Delete** on the notification.

## When to use it

> A client's mail in Inbox notifies Meera. A promotion filed in Spam does not.

## When you get no notification

| Reason | Result |
|---|---|
| Quiet time on and notifications disabled during it | No alert |
| Account's notify option off | No alert |
| Mail in Trash, Drafts, Spam or Sent | No alert. The Inbox always notifies. |
| Folder not set to notify | No alert |
| Mail already read | No alert |
| Chat-type mail and ignore chat is on | No alert |

## Good to know

- Up to 9 mails are shown, and the summary lists up to 5.
- The Delete button on alerts is controlled in notification settings.
- A failure to send also raises an alert, see the Outbox page.
- Android battery saving can delay alerts. Allow the app to run in the background.
- If alerts stop, the check on the notifications screen can test them.
