# Allow the permissions the app asks for

XgenPlus asks for permissions only when a feature needs them: notifications for new-mail alerts, contacts for recipient suggestions and sync, calendar for calendar sync, and location only if your organisation uses it. If you refuse one, only that feature stops. Change any permission later in Android Settings under Apps.

## How to allow the permissions the app asks for

1. After you add an account, read the **App Permissions** screen and tap **Next**.
2. On Android 13 and later, tap **Allow** when Android asks about notifications.
3. Allow Calendar or Contacts when the mailbox asks, if you use sync.
4. To change a choice later, open Android Settings, Apps, XgenPlus, **Permissions**.

## When to use it

> Anita denies notifications by mistake. Mail still arrives, but no banner appears. She opens Android Settings, Apps, XgenPlus and switches notifications back on.

## Options

| Permission | When the app asks | What it is for | If you say no |
|---|---|---|---|
| Notifications (Android 13 and later) | When you tap **Next** on the App Permissions screen | New-mail and other alerts | No alerts appear. Mail still syncs. |
| Contacts | When you compose, or when contact sync is on | Recipient suggestions from your phone and contact sync | No suggestions from phone contacts. Contact sync does not run. |
| Calendar | When the mailbox opens, only if calendar sync is on for your account | Calendar sync with webmail | Calendar sync does not run. |
| Location | Only if your organisation turned on location features for you | Features your organisation set up, such as attendance | Those location features do not work. |
| Files and media (Android 12 and older) | When you attach or save a file | Picking and saving attachments | Attaching or saving may fail. Newer Android uses the system file picker and needs no permission. |
| Display over other apps | On the Web Login screen, optional | Show a login code over other apps | You can still read the code inside the app. |

## Good to know

- The App Permissions screen is shown once after a new account is set up, and again if a needed permission is still missing.
- Tapping **Next** asks for the notification permission first. Calendar and Contacts are requested later, when you open the mailbox.
- The app does not read your photos, videos or audio.
