# Mark mails as deleted instead of trashing

If you set **On delete** to **Mark as delete** in Settings, clicking **Delete** no longer moves mail to Trash. The mail stays in the list, struck through, and **Un** restores it. Mails marked as deleted are cleared when you log out, after XgenPlus asks you to confirm.

## How to mark mails as deleted instead of trashing

1. Open Settings and set **On delete** to **Mark as delete**.
2. In the mail list, tick the mails and click **Delete**. In this mode the toolbar shows **Un | Delete**, and the mails are struck through.
3. To restore a marked mail, tick it and click **Un**.
4. When you log out, confirm what happens to the mails marked as deleted.

## When to use it

> Anita, a records officer at example.in, reviews old correspondence during the day and marks mails for disposal. Before she logs out she sees the list of marked mails one last time and confirms the clean-up.

## Good to know

- This mode suits people who want a second look before mail leaves a folder.
- To go back to the normal behaviour, set **On delete** to **Move to trash**.
