# Empty the Trash folder

To empty Trash, click **[Empty]** next to **Trash** in the left pane and confirm "Do you want to empty trash ?". The space is freed. Trash also empties by itself after 30 days. Emptied mail is not lost for good, as you can recover it from Archive of Deleted Emails within your domain's retention period, 7 days by default.

## How to empty the Trash folder

1. In the left pane, find **Trash**.
2. Click **[Empty]** next to it.
3. Confirm when XgenPlus asks whether to empty Trash.

## When to use it

> Rohit's mailbox at acme.in is nearly full and new mail may start bouncing. He empties Trash, which frees a few hundred MB straight away.

## Good to know

- Emptying Trash cannot be undone from the Trash folder. Check it for anything you still need first.
- You don't have to empty Trash yourself: mail is removed from it automatically after 30 days.
- Emptied mail is not gone for good. Within your domain's retention period (7 days by default) you can bring it back from **Archive of Deleted Emails**. The Mail Rescue Plus Pack gives a longer recovery period.
- To see which folders use the most space before you clean up, use **Calculate** on the Folders page.
