# Fall back from an Indian-language address

To keep mail from an Indian-language address deliverable everywhere, open **Settings › Email Alias** and, under **Auto downgrading of Email**, tick the option and choose an English alias or the Punycode form. Click **Save**. When a recipient's server cannot accept your language address, XgenPlus sends from the fallback address instead.

## How to fall back from an Indian-language address

1. Click your profile picture, then **Settings**, and open **Email Alias**.
2. Under **Auto downgrading of Email**, tick the option to use a fallback address automatically.
3. In **Alias or PunnyCode**, choose your English alias or the Punycode form of your address.
4. Click **Save**.

## When to use it

> Ram works for a government office with the address राम@डाटा.भारत and the English alias ram@data.in. He sets ram@data.in as his fallback. When he writes to a partner whose mail server cannot accept Hindi addresses, the mail still gets through from ram@data.in.

## Options

| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Use the fallback automatically | Sends from the fallback only when the recipient's server is not ready to accept your language address. |
| Alias | An English address from your aliases, such as ram@data.in. |
| Punycode | The English-letter form of your language address that all servers accept. |

## Good to know

- Downgrading follows the universal acceptance standard of ICANN. When a receiving server does not support SMTPUTF8 or email address internationalisation (EAI), XgenPlus sends the mail from your pre-configured From address instead.
- You need an English alias first if you want to use one as the fallback. Add it on the same **Email Alias** screen.
- Recipients whose servers accept language addresses still see your language address.
- Click **Delete** under **Auto downgrading of Email** to stop using the fallback.
