# Find mail with Advanced Search

To use Advanced Search, click the filter icon at the right of the search box. Fill any fields, such as **From**, **Subject**, **Folder** or **From Date** and **To Date**. Click **Search In** for more filters like size, attachment and read state, then click **Search**. **Clear Filter** resets every field.

## How to find mail with Advanced Search

1. Click the filter (sliders) icon at the right of the search box.
2. Fill in any fields, such as **From**, **To**, **Subject** or **Message**, and choose a **Folder**.
3. Click **Search In** to show the extra filters, such as size, attachment and read state.
4. Set the **From Date** and **To Date** if you need a date range.
5. Click **Search**.

## When to use it

> Anita in audit needs every mail from @vendor.example.in larger than 5 MB with PDF attachments received between April and June. She fills From, Size and Attachment Type, sets the dates and gets the list in one search.

## Options

| Field | What it does |

| **My Folder(s)** / **Shared Folder(s)** / **Archive of Deleted Emails** | Where to search: your own folders, folders colleagues shared with you, or deleted mail, including mail removed from Trash and Spam-Promo. |
| **Folder** | All Folders, or one folder such as Inbox, Sent, Draft, Trash or a folder of your own. |
| **From**, **To**, **Subject**, **Message** | Words or addresses to match. From and To suggest addresses from your contacts. |
| **MailId** | Opens one mail by its Mail-Id. Other fields are switched off while it is filled. |
| **Size is** | Size in KB, with =, <, >, <= or >=. |
| **Search in Mail** | Limit results to **Read**, **Unread** or **Encrypted** mail, or none. |
| **Attachment Name**, **Attachment Type** | Match the file name, or the file type without the dot, such as pdf. |
| **Search in Attachment** | Words inside attachments, for a date range of up to 30 days. |
| **Search by Tag**, **Search by Color Code** | Mail you tagged or colour-coded. |
| **From Date**, **To Date** | The date range. Dates can't be in the future, and From can't be after To. |
| **Clear Filter** | Empties every field so you can start a new search. |

## Good to know

- **Search** stays greyed out until you fill at least one field.
- To narrow a result list further, reopen Advanced Search and tick **Search Results** to search within it.
- On a result list you can select every match, not just the visible page, and delete, move or mark them in one go.
- Trash and Spam-Promo are emptied after 30 days. Deleted mail stays recoverable in **Archive of Deleted Emails** for your domain's retention period, 7 days by default. The hints icon shows both.
