# Connect Claude Desktop to XgenPlus Mail

Claude Desktop connects to XgenPlus through the `mcp-remote` bridge, because its own **Add custom connector** button needs OAuth sign-in, which XgenPlus does not support yet. Install Node.js, open **Settings › Developer › Edit Config**, paste the block below with your token, then quit and reopen Claude Desktop. The XgenPlus tools appear in a new chat.

## How to connect Claude Desktop to XgenPlus Mail

1. Create your agent password and [make your token](/developers/mcp-make-a-token/).
2. Install Node.js (LTS) from nodejs.org if `node --version` does not already work in a terminal.
3. In Claude Desktop, open **Settings › Developer** and click **Edit Config** to open `claude_desktop_config.json`.
4. Paste the block below, or merge it into your existing `mcpServers`, and replace `<TOKEN>` with your token.
5. Quit Claude Desktop fully and open it again.
6. Start a new chat and check that the XgenPlus tools appear in the tools or connectors menu.

## When to use it

> Meera uses Claude Desktop at work. She adds XgenPlus once, and from then on asks Claude to summarise long threads and prepare reply drafts that she sends from webmail.

## Configuration

The file is at:
- **Windows:** `%APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json`
- **Mac:** `~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json`

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "xgenplus": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://mcp.xgenplus.com/mcp", "--header", "Authorization:${XGENPLUS_AUTH}"],
      "env": { "XGENPLUS_AUTH": "Bearer <TOKEN>" }
    }
  }
}
```

## Good to know

- Keep `Authorization:${XGENPLUS_AUTH}` without a space after the colon. The space goes in the `env` value, which keeps it working on Windows.
- When OAuth support arrives, you will be able to use the connector button instead.
- Claude asks before it uses a tool unless you allow it. Review what it proposes before you approve a send.

## Common questions

**Why can't I use the Add custom connector button?**

That button signs in with OAuth, which XgenPlus does not support yet. It is coming soon. Until then the bridge sends your agent password header instead.

**The server shows an error. What should I check?**

Check the token, and that `npx` works in a terminal. Claude Desktop shows server logs in its Developer settings.
