# Control the global address book

To control address books for your domain, open the admin console, go to **Manage Domain(s)**, open your domain with **Edit Domain** and click the **Option** tab. Switch **Show Global Address Book** and **Show Admin Address Book** on or off, then click **View / Save Changes** and **Save**. The change applies to every user in the domain.

## How to control the global address book

1. Open the admin console and go to **Manage Domain(s)**.
2. Click **Edit Domain** (the pencil) next to your domain and open the **Option** tab.
3. Switch **Show Global Address Book** and **Show Admin Address Book** on or off.
4. To limit users to these address books, turn on **Allow sending mails only to Global and Admin Address Book**. You can add other allowed domain names.
5. Click **View / Save Changes**, check the values and click **Save**.

## Options

| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Show Global Address Book** | Shows users the domain directory in Contacts and in compose suggestions. |
| **Show Admin Address Book** | Shows every user the address book that domain administrators keep. |
| **Allow sending mails only to Global and Admin Address Book** | Users can send mail only to addresses in these address books, plus any domain names you add. |

## Example

> A defence PSU turns on **Allow sending mails only to Global and Admin Address Book** for its clerical staff, so they can mail only colleagues and approved partners in the directory. Users who try another address are told they are restricted to the global and admin address books.

## Good to know

- Users have a contact limit; when they reach it they see "Your account is full. You cannot add a new contact".
- You can turn the global address book on or off for many users at once with a bulk update.
- The global address book can cover more than one domain if your organisation is set up that way.
