# Mark an event as busy, tentative or free

To set how an event shows, open or create it in **Calendar** and pick **Busy**, **Tentative** or **Free** from the drop-down next to **Save**, then save. Busy events block the slot. Free events do not count as a clash when you or the calendar check for meeting conflicts. The setting also goes with the event when you export it.

## How to mark an event as busy, tentative or free

1. Open an event in **Calendar**, or create a new one.
2. In the drop-down next to **Save**, choose **Busy**, **Tentative** or **Free**.
3. Click **Save**.

## When to use it

> Rohit adds an optional product webinar to his calendar and marks it **Free**, so it does not show as a clash when his manager books a team meeting at the same time.

## Options

| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| **Busy** | You are not available. The slot counts as taken. |
| **Tentative** | You might attend. |
| **Free** | The event is in your calendar but does not block the time. |

## Good to know

- **Check Schedule** can filter your month by these statuses.
- When you export an event, other calendar apps read the same busy or free setting.
