# Restore a deleted user

Domain admins and support admins can restore a deleted user. Open Admin console › Manage Domain(s) › your domain › Manage Users, type the start of the address, click Archive and then click Restore User beside the account. Confirm with OK. The user returns to your domain, unless someone has since taken the same address.

## How to restore a deleted user

1. Open **Manage Users**.
2. Type the first letters of the deleted user's address, or their mobile number.
3. Click **Archive**.
4. Click **Restore User** in the last column of the right row.
5. Click **OK** to confirm.

## What you see

After **Archive**, the table lists deleted users with their name, address, activation date, expiry date and last login. The last column, headed **Action**, shows **Restore User**.

## What comes back

The user returns under the original login name and address, together with their email aliases. If you need to change anything, such as the password, open the user from **Manage Users** like any other user.

## Example

> Anita from acme.in was deleted by mistake when her branch closed. Meera types `anita` in Manage Users, clicks **Archive**, clicks **Restore User** and confirms. "User Restored Successfully" appears and Anita is back in the domain.

## Good to know

- The archive search only finds users deleted from your domain.
- Domain administrators and support administrators can both use **Restore User**, and so can server administrators.

## Common questions

**Why do I see "User already exists"?**

The address, or an alias with the same address, is now used by someone else in the domain. Rename or remove that account, then restore again.

**How long are deleted users kept?**

For the user archive period set for your domain. Ask your server administrator what it is.
