# Restore a mailbox from a backup

To restore mail, open Admin console › Backup & Archival › Restore. Find the user, click Select, click Upload and add the backup ZIP file. When it shows Done, click Close in the upload window to start the restore. Follow the progress on the Queue tab, where you can also cancel a queued job.

## How to restore a mailbox from a backup

1. Open **Backup & Archival** and click **Restore**.
2. Type the user's email, login or mobile number, click **Exact** or **Search**, then click **Select**.
3. Click **Upload** and choose the backup ZIP file from your computer.
4. When the file shows **Done**, click **Close**. This adds the restore job to the queue.
5. Follow the job on the **Queue** tab until the status shows **Completed**.

## Queue tab

The page opens on the **Queue** tab, titled **Restore Mail Backup**, with recent restore jobs for your domain.

| Item | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Counters and filters | **Queued**, **Running**, **Completed** and **Failed** counts, a status list, a **Mailbox** box and a refresh icon. |
| Columns | Requested At, Mailbox, Restore Source, Status, Age, Started At, Finished At, Action. |
| **Age** | A progress bar with the files processed, the file being worked on and any error. |
| **Action** | Cancels a queued job. You are asked to confirm. |

## Configure tab

| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Upload** | Opens **Upload File(s)**. Choose the file with **Select file from your computer** or drag it in. Only a ZIP file is accepted. |
| **Close** | Closes the upload window. If a file uploaded successfully, it also starts the restore. |
| **Restore History** | This user's earlier restores: file name, when each step ran and an action. |

## Example

> A user at acme.in deletes a project folder by mistake. Meera finds her mailbox, uploads last month's backup ZIP and clicks **Close**. She watches the progress bar on the **Queue** tab until the job is completed.

## Good to know

- Use backup files you created with **Backup & Archival › Backup**.
- You can restore only into mailboxes in your domain, unless a server administrator has allowed you to manage other domains.
- Restoring happens in the background. You can leave the page and come back.
