# Set default user limits and alerts

To set default limits, open Edit Domain, click the **Option** tab and fill the boxes under **Default Setting For User**. The domain totals above them are read-only, with usage shown beside each. Use 0 for unlimited. Click **View / Save Changes** and confirm. Your server administrator changes the domain totals.

## How to set default user limits and alerts

1. Open **Edit Domain** for your domain and click the **Option** tab.
2. Read the totals under **Set Default Limits For Domain**. They show used and allowed amounts.
3. Under **Default Setting For User**, change the limits each user gets.
4. Optionally set **Notify before Quota Exceed** or **Notify before expiration (Days)**.
5. Click **View / Save Changes**, check the list, then click **Save**.

## Domain limits you can see

These boxes under **Set Default Limits For Domain** are read-only. Beside each, the page shows what is used and what is allowed.

| Item | Meaning |
|---|---|
| **Mailbox Size (GB)** | Total storage for the domain. |
| **Secure Quota (GB)** | Storage for secure folders. |
| **No. of Incoming Mails per Day** | Total mails the domain can receive per day. |
| **No. of Outgoing Mails per Day** | Total mails the domain can send per day. |
| **Total data MB per Day** | Total mail data per day. |
| **Max Attachment Size (MB)** | Largest attachment. |
| **Max Outgoing-Mail Recipient(s)** | Most recipients in one mail. |
| **Discard limit** | Managed by your server administrator. |

## Default setting for user

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Mailbox Size (MB)** | Default mailbox size for a new user. Cannot be more than the domain size shared across its users. |
| **No. of Incoming Mails per Day** | Default daily incoming mails per user. |
| **Max Attachment Size (MB)** | Default largest attachment per user. |
| **No. of Outgoing Mails per Day** | Default daily outgoing mails per user. |
| **Total data MB per Day** | Default daily data per user. |
| **Max Outgoing-Mail Recipient(s)** | Default recipients per mail. Cannot be 0. |

Each value must be a number and not blank. A user value cannot be higher than the domain value, unless the domain value is 0 (unlimited). When the domain has a limit, the user value cannot be 0.

## Alerts

| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Expires on** | The domain expiry date. Read-only. |
| **Notify before expiration (Days)** | Tick it, then enter a number of days up to 100. |
| **Notify before Quota Exceed** | Tick it, then enter a percentage from 1 to 100. |

## Example

> The domain at acme.in has 5 GB shared by 50 users. The admin sets **No. of Outgoing Mails per Day** to 300 and **Max Outgoing-Mail Recipient(s)** to 50 for users, then switches on **Apply To All Users**.

## Good to know

- 0 means unlimited. The page notes that domain totals are shared across users in proportion to their number.
- Mailbox size defaults apply to new users only.

## Common questions

**Can I change the domain totals?**

No. **Mailbox Size (GB)**, **Secure Quota (GB)**, the daily mail and data totals, **Max Attachment Size (MB)** and **Max Outgoing-Mail Recipient(s)** are read-only for you. Ask your server administrator.

**Do the defaults change existing users?**

Not by themselves. Switch on **Apply To All Users** before saving to copy the daily limits, attachment size and recipient limit to existing users.
