# Create a mailing list

To create a mailing list, open Admin console › Manage Domain(s) › your domain › Mailing Lists, type the list address in the box at the top and click Add Mailing List. The list is created with sensible defaults and its settings window opens, where you add subscribers and moderators.

## How to create a mailing list

1. Open **Manage Domain(s)**, expand your domain and click **Mailing Lists**.
2. Type the list address, for example `sales`, in the box at the top. Your domain is added for you.
3. Click **Add Mailing List**. The settings window opens.
4. Check **Posting Messages** and the other options, then click **Update**.
5. Open **Add Subscriber(s)** to add members, and **Add Moderator** to name moderators.

## Add a mailing list

Type the full address or only the part before the at sign. The address must belong to your domain. A plus sign is not accepted, and an address that already exists is refused.

The table shows each list with **Modify List** (pencil), **Delete List** (cross) and an **Upload** button for adding subscribers from a file.

## List settings

| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Description** | A short description of the list. Fill it in when you add or modify a list so that the posting choice below works as set. |
| **Anyone can post.** | Anyone can send mail to the list. |
| **Only subscribers can post, all others bounce.** | The default. Mail from non-subscribers is returned. |
| **Only moderators can post, all others bounce.** | Only the people on the **Add Moderator** tab can post. |
| **Enable Moderation** | Appears when you modify a list. Needs at least one moderator. It cannot be used on a list that is used for advanced forwarding. |
| **Add Mailing List name in Subject** | Puts the list name in the subject of every mail. |
| **don't want to add Un-Subscribe link** | Tick it to stop the unsubscribe link being added to mails. |
| **Replies should go to** | **the original sender** (default) or **the address** you type. A valid address is required for the second choice. |
| **Registration** | **open** lets people join through the public links, **close** does not. With open, choose **For user of** your domain **only** or **For any one**. |
| Subscribe and unsubscribe links | Web links you can copy and share. See the related page. |
| **Update** / **Reset** | Saves the settings, or clears the form when you are adding. |

## Subscribers and moderators

On **Add Subscriber(s)**:

1. Choose **Email** or **Group** in the first box.
2. Type one email address, or pick one of your domain's groups under **Select Group**.
3. Click **Add**. The list below shows the **Subscriber(s)**. Tick names and click **Remove Selected** to remove them.

To add many at once, click **Upload** and choose a CSV file of email addresses. A summary tells you how many were added and how many were duplicates or invalid. You can correct invalid ones there and save them one by one.

On **Add Moderator**, type one address from your domain and click **Add**. If you remove every moderator, moderation is switched off for that list after you confirm.

## Example

> The marketing team at acme.in wants a newsletter address. Meera adds `newsletter@acme.in`, sets **Registration** to **For any one**, and uploads 300 customer addresses from a CSV. Rohit is added as moderator so he can approve every mail.

## Good to know

- Only domain administrators and server administrators manage lists here.
- Deleting a list removes the list and its subscribers. Use the cross icon and confirm.

## Common questions

**I cannot see Mailing Lists in my menu.**

The item appears only when mailing lists are allowed for your domain. If it is missing, the feature has not been enabled for your domain.

**Can subscribers be outside my organisation?**

Yes. Any valid email address can be a subscriber. A group of your own domain can be added too.

**How many subscribers can a list have?**

Up to 20000.
