# Set domain aliases for email aliases

To set domain aliases, open Admin console › Manage Domain(s), click the pencil next to your domain, and on the **Domain** tab type one or more domain names in **Domain Alias**, separated by commas. Click **Save**. Each name must already exist as a domain on your XgenPlus server.

## How to set domain aliases for email aliases

1. Open **Manage Domain(s)** and click the pencil icon next to your domain.
2. On the **Domain** tab, find **Domain Alias**.
3. Type the domain names, separated by commas, for example acme-labs.in,acme-trade.in.
4. Click **Save**.
5. If the list has changed, check the **Previous Value** and **Current Value** in the **Confirm** box and click **Save**.

## What a domain alias does

The **Domain Alias** list is the set of other domains on which your users may be given email alias addresses. After you save the list, those domains are the ones offered when you create email aliases for users of your domain.

## Options

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Domain Alias** | The alias domains for your domain. Enter several names separated by commas. Letters are saved in lower case. |
| **Save** | Checks the list and saves it. |

## Rules for the list

- The box cannot be empty.
- Do not leave a gap between commas (,,) or dots (..), and do not use spaces.
- Each name must be a valid domain name, for example acme-labs.in.
- Every name must already exist as a domain on your XgenPlus server.

## Example

> Acme India runs acme.in and acme-labs.in on the same XgenPlus server. Meera types acme-labs.in in **Domain Alias** for acme.in and saves. When she adds an email alias for Rohit, she can now choose an address at acme-labs.in.

## Good to know

- Point the MX records of the alias domain yourself. XgenPlus does not check or change DNS when you add an alias domain.
- The list you save replaces the old list, so always include the domains you want to keep.
- You can only change the alias list of your own domain, or of a domain you have been authorised to manage.
- The **Info** tab of Edit Domain shows the saved list under **Domain Alias**.
- A successful save shows "Domain alias successfully updated".

## Common questions

**Can I add a domain that is not on our XgenPlus server?**

No. Every name in the list must already be a domain on the same XgenPlus server. If a name is not found, you see an "Invalid Domain Alias Name" message and nothing is saved.

**How do I remove an alias domain?**

Type the full list again without that domain and click **Save**. The new list replaces the old one.
