# Add many users from a CSV file

To add many users, open Admin console › Manage Domain(s) › your domain › Bulk Add and stay on the User tab. Download user.csv, fill one row per user with a login name and password, click Upload and choose the file. Match your columns to the XgenPlus ones, then click Add User.

## How to add many users from a CSV file

1. Open **Manage Domain(s)**, expand your domain and click **Bulk Add**.
2. On the **User** tab, download the example file next to **Example Of CSV File**.
3. Fill in one row per user and save the file as CSV.
4. Click **Upload** next to **Import file containing list of users**, then choose or drag your file.
5. Match each XgenPlus header to a column of your file, tick **Notify Password via Email** if you want, and click **Add User**.
6. Read the **Summary of User Import** and fix any invalid rows.

## CSV columns

The file has a header row and one row per user. After you upload, you match your headers to these, so the order does not have to be exact.

| Column | What to enter | Required |
|---|---|---|
| **First Name** | First name of the user. | No |
| **Last Name** | Last name of the user. | No |
| **Email Address /Login Name** | Login name of the user, for example `rajeev` or `rajeev@acme.in`. The domain is added if you leave it out. | Yes |
| **Alternate Email Address** | Any existing valid email address of the user. | No |
| **Password** | Password of the new user. | Yes |
| **Mobile No** | Numbers only, 10 or 12 digits, for example `919876543210`. | No |
| **Work State** and **Work City** | Where the user works. | No |
| **Designation** | The user's job title. | No |
| **Employee Code** | Your HR code for the user. | No |
| **Alias Address** | An alias for the user. | No |
| **Default Alias** | 1 to make the alias the default address, 0 if not. | No |

## After you upload

1. **Total Records Found** shows how many rows were read.
2. Under **Xgen Plus Header** and **Your CSV File Header**, check that each header points to the right column of your file. Use **None** for a column you do not have. The login name and the password must be matched, or you are asked to match them.
3. Tick **Notify Password via Email** to send the login details to the alternate email address in the file.
4. Click **Add User**.
5. If your domain has domain aliases, a window **Create Email Alias Address(es)** appears. Tick the domain aliases and click **Continue** to create an alias on each for every new user, or click **Skip & Continue** to add only the main address.

The **Summary of User Import** then shows the total records, how many users were added, how many already exist, any that would pass your domain's user limit, and a **List of Invalid** rows. Correct a row and click **Save**, or click **Save All**.

## Example

> Acme India hires 120 graduates in July. HR exports their names, login names, employee codes and a starting password into the example file, and Meera uploads it once under **Bulk Add** › **User**. All 120 mailboxes are ready before the induction.

## Good to know

- Only CSV files are accepted.
- The link **Auto Add User** at the top right opens your domain's policy page, where users can be added automatically.
- Only one upload runs at a time. If you see **Already Processing**, wait for the current file to finish.
- Ask users to change their starting password at first sign-in.

## Common questions

**What size and limits do the new users get?**

They get the default user limits of your domain. Set those before you upload.

**Can I add aliases in the same file?**

Yes. Fill the Alias Address column, and put 1 in Default Alias to make it the user's default address, or 0 if not.

**What if some rows are wrong?**

Valid rows are added. The summary lists the invalid ones, and you can correct and save them there.
